Yosei will be looking to score her third Group 1 win when she runs in the Tattersall’s Tiara this Saturday June 22, 2013.
The five-year-old has won four of her 36 race starts and has earned more than $1.2 million in prize money during her horse racing career.
The Invincible Spirit mare placed eighth in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap last start and trainer Stuart Webbbelieves that she will be at her peak for the 2013 Tattersall’s Tiara this weekend.
Her last win came in this very race two years ago.
“That prep she was a little bit rushed for her third run coming off knee surgery the previous spring and I reckon she’s nearly going better this year,” Webb said.
Webb believes that Yosei has been plagued by bad luck throughout 2013 and is hoping it will all turn around in time for the Tattersall’s Tiara.
“She never got a crack at them in the Goodwood then in the Doomben 10,000 she was run off her legs early but was strong through the line,” he said.
“In the Stradbroke if she stays on the fence she gets (winner) Linton’s run but when she came out to make her run she was checked in the final 50 metres.
“That probably cost her one-and-a-half to two lengths and had it not occurred she probably runs third or fourth instead of eighth.”
Yosei may have a long gap between wins, however, it remains certain that she is capable of competing at the top level of Australian racing.
“I know she hasn’t won for a long time but you’ve only got to look at her form with thirds in the Doncaster, Toorak and Sangster in the last year or so to know she’s still racing very well without winning,” Webb said.
