2011 Winter Stakes Betting Update

June 24th, 2011

The 2011 Winter Stakes will run as Race 7 at Eagle Farm Racecourse tomorrow June 25, 2011, and we have put together the latest betting update for the race.

Peter Snowden’s Beaded is currently favourite, paying odds of $2 to win the 2011 Winter Stakes at Luxbet.

The five-year-old mare opened at $2.10 and after a brief stint at $2.20 shortened back in price to $2.

Beaded has had a brilliant winter carnival so far, with the Lonhro mare winning the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and just missing out on a win in the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said that punters have had eyes only for Beaded in the betting ring.

“We took two early bets of $10,000 at $2.25 and there has been a string of other four figure bets at $2.10 and even money,” Mr Sullivan said.

“We haven’t laid a decent bet on any other runner at this stage and it isn’t hard to see why punters like Beaded.

“She is drawn to get a really soft run from barrier unlike the Stardbroke where she got posted and still nearly held on.

“Under weight for age, she is also very well suited against this field given she is the only Group One winner of the mares besides the out of form Culminate with filly Yosei the only other Group One winner.”

Despite the other talent in the field, Mr Sullivan understands why punters would favour Beaded.

“Varenna Miss was very impressive last start but this is a lot harder while Zero Rock has been gallant all preparation but she meets Beaded 3.5kg worse than the Stradbroke so it is easy to see why punters have settled on Beaded,” Mr Sullivan said.

Varenna Miss is currently the second favourite in the 2011 Winter Stakes betting and is paying odds of $7 to win the race at Luxbet.

Varenna Miss originally opened at $6.50 but drifted out to $7 after large the support was shown for race favourite Beaded.

The four-year-old mare has won both of her past two race starts, claiming victory in the Act For Kids Handicap and the Group 2 QTC Cup.

Varenna Miss has been unlucky in the barrier draw and will have to fight it out from the outside gate of 13.

Hurtle Myrtle will begin the 2011 Winter Stakes, which is this year known as the Tattersall’s Tiara, as third favourite at Luxbet.

Paying odds of $10, Hurtle Myrtle has firmed in after receiving the favourable barrier draw of six.

Original third favourite Zero Rock has been unwanted by the punters, drifting out from her starting price of $9.50 to her current $13.

New Zealander She Rules is the least fancied runner in the 2011 Winter Stakes horse racing betting, paying odds of $151 to win at Luxbet.
